I’m actually posting this from McDonald’s because right now I’m in Bethany Beach at my family’s beach house that has no internet…it’s kind of amazing to be so disconnected sometimes! (Except for my phone obviously) and I’m loving the time I’ve been able to spend with my family relaxing on the beach, taking evening walks, and just hanging out. I’m learning that it’s really hard to take a vacation as a small business owner because the work never really ends and it’s so hard for me to turn my brain off! I hope you are having a relaxing Fourth of July weekend as well! We’ve been here since Monday

I’ve always thought one of the best things about getting to be a part of the photography industry is the people I’ve been able to meet because of it…I have way more friends from way more places than I ever would’ve had otherwise…I am a big people person so I get my energy from spending time with people…Since as a photographer I spend at least 80% of my job in front of a computer doing the behind the scenes work (that is a made up statistic but it sounds about right!), it’s always a fun change to get to go to an event where you can network with other professionals and encourage one another.

It was last May…I had been second shooting for a while but I wasnt yet comfortable calling myself an actual wedding photographer. My first blog was still in the works and I emailed Katelyn James to ask if she would make a tiny exception and take headshots for me, even though I was fully aware that she no longer offered portraits so that she could focus on weddings. She emailed me back and asked if I’d be interested in doing a coaching session instead, which would include headshots…She had never done one at that point so it would be kind of like a test run for her. Of course I said yes right away!

Just because the new site has launched doesn’t mean this blog series is over! There was so much that went into the new site and brand and I just think it’s fun to share the process…One thing I knew I needed before we could launch it was new headshots…I considered asking a fellow photographer to take them for me, but then I decided it would be a fun opportunity to teach Ryan a little bit about shooting! The hope is that one day he can second shoot with me at weddings if he wants to :)
I’d say he did a really good job! I had just done an engagement shoot at the VMFA right before we took them and I love that place!
