Refining the AAP Brand

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while or if you’ve followed much of my journey in this industry, then it probably feels like I was JUST rebranding…I started out with nothing but a blog template and it didn’t take long for me to realize that I needed something more official, so in November of 2012, I hired Krista to create for me what my site is today. It officially launched last spring at the start of my first season as a full time wedding photographer (having quit my day job earlier that year). And it felt so GOOD to have my own official online presence. But this past year was a huge year of growth for me and of learning a lot not just about my the direction that I wanted to take my business, but also about myself…what I stand for and who I am as a person and photographer plays a huge role in the type of business I strive to have! I think growth requires continually evaluating where you are so that you can discern the ways that you can improve!

I started to see a pattern in the work that I was really proud of…those images that truly stand the test of time…the ones that display a couple’s relationship and the real love that they share…not just a pretty posed picture…but instead that show off the romance and story that makes each couple special. I learned that I love shooting in cities…there’s something about being in the city that makes me feel so inspired…but that I love shooting in locations like Charlottesville just as much…I learned that I love weddings that exude elegance…It could be the understated elegance of a wedding at a manor house in the countryside…or the over-the-top elegance of a wedding at a grande ballroom in Washington DC. My favorite definition of elegant is “gracefully refined; polished; cleverly simple”. Refined. There’s something about the word refined that goes deeper than just what something looks like on the outside. Three words that I’ve found to be the underlying characteristics of the work that really speaks to me are Authentic, Timeless, and Romantic…and I’m excited to have Krista helping me to create a site that reflects them! I started pinning pictures that inspire me, venues where I’d love to shoot, wedding gowns that make me weak in the knees, and typography that I find sophisticated and timeless…and this is what I came up with to base my ideas for the new site off of! Above all I wanted the new site to showcase less of an in your face type of brand..and more of a subtle elegance that really highlights my work. I can’t wait to share my new logo soon! But for now, enjoy this pretty pinboard of my inspirations…
